National Olympic Committees Meeting

Delegates from 23 NOCs and national sport federations took part in a meeting in preparation of The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw/Poland.

The International World Games Association and the Wroclaw Organizing Committee informed participants about the various opportunities for National Olympic Committees to contribute to the event, which will take place from 20 – 30 July 2017. IWGA President Jose Perurena was very pleased with the great interest shown by the participants, and their commitment to supporting the athletes and teams from their countries during TWG 2017.

After the two days of meetings he stated: “The best athletes of each participating sport perform at The World Games. They deserve the best possible support from their countries. IOC President Thomas Bach urged the NOCs to support their teams at The World Games. Our meeting in Wroclaw proved that his call for action was heard and recognized.” Wojciech Adamski, Vice Mayor of Wroclaw, stressed in his welcome speech that The World Games would be the biggest multisport event ever held in his country and promised to deliver “very, very good games”.

Sabine Zöll, partaking on behalf of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), expressed gratitude for the helpful information delivered by the experts from IWGA and NOC. Not only the DOSB was present but also delegates from Belgium, South Africa, Hungary, France, Italy, Russia, China, Colombia and 14 other countries. The organizers received several more compliments for the comprehensive update concerning the multi-sports event next year in Poland. The representatives took the opportunity to ask questions, mostly about accreditation, accommodation and other services. They also asked to receive updates about the status of qualifications relating to the athletes from their country.

WOC took the opportunity to present some of the venues for TWG 2017. The more than 50 delegates visited the construction sites of the Olympic Stadium in Wroclaw and the new swimming pool. They were also impressed to see the Centennial Hall, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hall will be used for the competitions in Gymnastics and Dance Sport next July. They also visited Wroclaw Stadium, where the 10th edition of TWG 2017 will celebrate its spectacular opening ceremony on 20 July 2017.

The World Games 2017 will showcase 27 sports on the official program. 3,600 athletes from around 90 countries will compete in more than 180 medal events.
