The IFSC Lead World Cup Series get back into gear in Puurs
One month after the last IFSC Lead World Cup in Norway, the 2015 Lead World Cup season will resume in Puurs (BEL) on September 26-27. A classic of the Lead World Cup Series, the spectacular climbing structure will once again welcome the Lead climbing elite for some outstanding action!
In the men’s category, French teammates Gautier Supper and Romain Desgranges seem to be in great shape this season. Gautier currently leads the overall ranking with 302 points, and Romain is 2nd with 260 points. Behind, the competition is fierce between Adam Ondra (CZE) and Jakob Schubert (AUT), who are just a few points apart, and who both have a solid claim on the Lead overall title. On their heels, rising stars Sebastian Halenke (GER) and Domen Skofic (SLO) as well as seasoned competitors Stefano Ghisolfi (ITA), Ramón Julian Puigblanque (ESP) and Sean McColl (CAN) are all pushing hard to grab a podium spot. With such a strong field of athletes lining up, the competition will definitely be riveting!
In the women’s event, the tension will be high in the anticipated neck-and-neck race between Mina Markovic (SLO) and Jain Kim (KOR). Mina has won every Lead final that she has competed in so far this season, and she currently leads the overall ranking with 340 points. Jain Kim is the reigning Lead World Champion, and she has won the last four IFSC Lead World Cups that took place in Puurs. They will be competing against Austrian young gun Jessica Pilz, who is currently ranked 2nd in the overall ranking with 290 points, and Anak Verhoeven (BEL), who is fresh from her Lead World Champion title in the Junior category in Arco, and who is currently ranked 4th overall with 225 points. This time, Anak will be competing in front of her home crowd, so we can expect her to her to set the bar high and ensure for some amazing competition!
